The “Atlantic Coast Conference” is no longer a fitting name as it welcomed two West Coast schools, California and Stanford, to the league. The ACC also claimed territory in Texas as SMU became the seventeenth member of the conference.
Though the ACC is considered to be weaker than the SEC and the Big Ten, it could still send multiple teams to the revamped College Football Playoff. The initial top 25 features four ACC teams: Florida State, Clemson, Miami and North Carolina State.
