Monday Night Football returns to ABC and ESPN for the 2024-25 NFL season with 21 games, including four weeks with doubleheaders.

Additionally, Week 18 will feature the return of Doubleheader Saturday with teams yet to be named.

In a stacked MNF slate, here are three matchups to look forward to:

Week 1 (Sept. 9): New York Jets at San Francisco 49ers

The first Monday night game of the season is the most highly anticipated.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will take the field for the first time since his season-ending Achilles injury on the fourth snap of last season. The Jets’ defense is elite, but after the offensive struggles a season ago, it will be intriguing to see what Rodgers can do with weapons such as Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams. However, starting the season with a road win against San Francisco is a tall order.

The defending NFC champs are expected to be just as good as they were last year. Brock Purdy has a season under his belt and is equipped with an elite running game and backed by a strong defense. A Week 1 clash with the Jets is appointment television.

Week 9 (Nov. 4): Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Kansas City Chiefs

A Monday Night Football game in November at Arrowhead Stadium just feels right.

It’s hard to believe, but the defending champs are expected to be even better this season. Patrick Mahomes and company will be an elite offensive squad again, especially with the addition of speedster Marquise Brown. They are expected duplicate their defensive prowess from last season as they resigned defensive tackle Chris Jones.

The Buccaneers are capable of scoring points, though, so this should make for a compelling contest. Baker Mayfield played better than expected last season, and the Bucs return all of their main weapons. With the NFC South expected to be weak again, the Buccaneers could snag a playoff spot even though they play a first-place schedule. This mid-season matchup at in Kansas City is probably the most difficult game on the calendar, though.

Week 11 (Nov. 18): Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys

Offensive football fans are in for a treat with this matchup.

CJ Stroud and the Texans offense will be able to put up points in a hurry with the addition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs and the return of Tank Dell. They also added star running back Joe Mixon in the offseason. While they face the fourth most difficult schedule in the league, Houston should be able to compete with anyone.

Despite poor postseason performances in recent years, Dallas has had plenty of regular season success. Dak Prescott consistently puts up stellar numbers and they have plenty of offensive weapons. Expectations for the Dallas defense have risen with the acquisition of Stephon Gilmore, but the Texans offense could make it a long night. This one has game of the year potential.

The Rest of the MNF Schedule

Twelve teams will play two MNF games this season, including the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, who will host both of their games.

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets also appear twice on MNF, giving them four prime time games this season. They host both of their Thursday Night Football games.

The Cowboys and 49ers will also serve as the home team in each of their MNF outings. Like the Jets, San Francisco has four appearances on either MNF or TNF.

On the flipside, the Saints, Ravens and Falcons will be on the road both times on Monday Night.

Here’s the entire MNF schedule:
